We are in the midst of our second winter. It warmed up after comic con to the point where water was dripping off of my roof! But now its back down to -40 out here. Spring is not here yet!
Alaska Comic Con
Thank you to everyone who braved the -50 and came out to see me at Alaska Comic Con! The event was a blast and it was so good to see everyone after a year. This year a few friends and I went out to Chena Hot Springs to recover from the event and I may have to do that again next year. Speaking of next year, I am already signed up for AKCC 2025. I had to downgrade my booth to a single table since they raised the prices for corner booths. I wanted to... but I cannot justify spending $600 ish for 2 tables in my hometown, that is ridiculous.
What I'm working on
I've been pretty creative this last month. Been doing the usual watercolor paintings, I even taught a watercolor class at my work! That was one of my first times teaching and it went super well. At least I think it did because the next one has a ton of people... I'm very excited to continue these and get better at teaching so I can eventually do my own private lessons. Next is the fantasy bird guide. I am ALMOST done with it! 18/20 birds inked, the remaining two sketched, and then I just need to scan and format it all into a book. I have lots to do before Gary Con! I have also been daily sketching pretty consistently the last month as well. They are mostly studies for upcoming projects and stuff, but I am happy with what I am creating.
The evil creative plans
The top priority is to get the fantasy bird guide done before Gary Con. Other than that, I have a few dnd pieces in the works. There has been a ton of crazy stuff happening in the main campaign and I just have to illustrate some of it! I also plan on doing more birds in general, both normal and dnd birds. They are fun, but also pretty easy to do when traveling... I got lots of traveling coming up in the next two months. Other than that I'm just drawing whatever I really feel like until summer. I have big plans to paint on site at a lot of places around Alaska!
