Bird Ninja (late) April Newsletter

APRIL 2024

Wow a lot has happened. I swear I'm not neglecting you guys, I just have had so much going on that I completely forgot to write down my thoughts. From events, new responsibilities at work, to new personal projects, and even thinking about getting a house... time has been rare. But that's ok! I have a lot to tell you about!

The Comic Shop is stocked again!

Gary Con

I went to Gary con for the first time with my friends! My friend at Forge of Ice had a booth for the first time and he invited us down so he could use all of our checked bags for his minis. I have been playing DND with them for around 2 years now and honestly it was a blast travelling with them and getting to know them better. So many good stories, good food, and so much more. I also played some games and my team won the Troll lords tournament! I bought so many things for my self and friends, and when I compared the two piles they were about the same size... I had to hook up my other DND party! I also met a lot of people in the ttrpg community and made some great connections! I promoted that I am the bird artist and would like to do bird art for ttrpgs, and it looks like I may have some work like that in the future. The fantasy birds guide did very well here and I already have the next 20 birds mapped out... Just gotta draw them. I'll do that after Gcx.

Fairbanks Watercolor Society 25th Annual Show

I was fortunate enough to get 3 of my paintings into this show! There are over 100 paintings created by over 30 artists, this is a show you do not want to miss. You can read more about it here. Keep up to date with the watercolor society by visiting their Facebook Page.

NAB Vegas: Post Production World

I traveled for work for the first time! I went with the media team down to Vegas to attend a conference by the National Association of Broadcasters. This is definitely a little out of my skillet, I only dabble in video editing for art and gaming and I only just did my first video for UAF (and hopefully more soon). I am a baby when it comes to my knowledge and skills relating to the film industry so most of the session topics didn't really stick out to me. Luckily for me, there were plenty of sessions on after effects, which is something I've been wanting to learn ever since I started using premiere pro. One of my favorite content creators uses after effects a lot to make his videos stand out from the rest of the destiny community and honestly that's what I want to learn how to do. So yes, this whole conference was essentially about absorbing everything I can about after effects. And man did I learn a lot! The program doesn't seem so intimidating anymore and I'm excited to play around with it. I also got to meet a friend in person for the first time too! All in all, even though there was a lot that I didn't relate to, I still got so much out of this trip. I learned a lot about after effects and social media, I became closer with my team and feel like I know them a lot better now, and i realized that Vegas is so overrated. The weather was nice and the conference was fun, but everything else about Vegas isn't for me.

Arctic Comic Con

Man it feels like I've been running a million miles per hour, but at least Arctic Comic Con is the last big thing for a while. This is the convention is one I don't really plan for, I just take what I got for other events and I just bring it with me. This year is no different, I will have all of my stuff with me. This includes the dnd bird stickers, landscapes, all of the stuff I did for gcx... Yea a lot. It's going to be a good time. If you are in the anchorage area I recommend stopping by! Or if you can't, then be sure to stop by Wild Starr Creations in downtown Anchorage because I will be dropping things off with them when I'm there. Are there any other businesses in Anchorage that I could get my art into? I'm not super familiar with the area so if you have any suggestions please let me know.

What I'm working on

Huh what have I been doing, there is so much. Let's start with watercolor Wednesday. I have taught three sessions so far and can safely say that I like teaching and I am getting better at it! I am going to continue it through the summer and maybe fall semester. We will see what happens.

Next is the Fantasy Bird guide, I have finally finished it and it is available for purchase in my shop and at the Comic Shop. It includes 20 birds with descriptions and lore based in my friend's Dnd world. I've been playing around in this world for 2 years and these birds give it an extra layer of life and depth.

Gcx is right around the corner is 4 months away. I am hard at work creating things as we speak. Last year I created some raid boss prints and since then I have finished the series. I plan on updating the Raid Landscape series as well to go along side the bosses. I am currently working on a completely new series, I haven't named it yet but think of Destiny raid bosses on a metal band t shirt. I am completely embracing pen and ink with this series and I am super excited to share these with you. I shared a sneak peek on twitter earlier this week and the reception of them is super positive. I will have 8 of them available at GCX as prints and stickers, and maybe I'll do them as other kinds of merch too... we will see what I can do. I also have something big planned to raffle off this year. I'll keep you guys posted on that.

The evil creative plans

Outside of prepping for GCX, I really want to do more watercolors. I plan on taking a few road trips this summer down the Parks Highway and water coloring attractions along the way. I eventually want to make a travel guide composed of all of these paintings. I also plan on doing some Norse Mythology related things for the Pagan Festival in June. Other than that, I want to play around with other merch ideas. I really want to try tcg playmats this year! I'm thinking a destiny one and a bird one to start and then go from there.

Support me by grabbing art from my shop!
